One Year Blogiversary: The Paper Year

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty five thousand moments, oh dear
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

A year ago today, I made my first post on this blog. Well, technically I made my first post under the Blogging For Therapy title, which is now Strong Enough To Break, but either way, I started the whole blogging thing a year ago. Hence the cheesy song lyric from Rent, but whenever I think of a year passing, that song always gets stuck in my head. Now it’s stuck in your head, too.

My original plan for this blog, as I mentioned in my first post, was to use it “as my outlet for venting or talking about some of the interesting or mundane aspects of my life.”

And I definitely have, to the tune of around 300 posts.

I’m not the type of person who sticks with things for long. My teaching career lasted a year. I ran my small business for under a year before selling it. I only get halfway through writing the novel I so badly want to write before moving on to something else or losing interest. When I get hired for a writing job, I usually have a change of heart about wanting to stick with it within a week or so. And, oh lord, the diets or “lifestyle changes.” I get all gung-ho about those, but anywhere from 24 hours to a week later, I’ve caved.

As such, I didn’t expect to stick with this for long, let alone see a year. My husband was shocked when he realized I’d stuck with it for three months, if that tells you anything.

Another thing I didn’t expect was to connect with so many wonderful people.  I’ve found so many kindred spirits through blogging. People who have walked similar paths in life, people who share similar mental health struggles, people who have the same quirky sense of humor, people who adore the same movies and TV shows, people who have experienced similar parenting woes. (I haven’t really found any kindred Hanson adoring spirits, so I’ll just work on converting some of y’all.)

A lot of these kindred spirits are on my Blogs I Love list. I would single some of y’all out and say something sweet, but I really suck at that to the point that I couldn’t write my own vows, so I won’t. Instead, here’s an awkward hug, which isn’t unlike my real life hugs:

Now for the fun part. There’s cake!

Before you ask, yes a Little Debbie cake counts. It may be the epitome of laziness, but it definitely counts as cake. And I even found a candle to stick on there, so big ups to me!

Now, in case you weren’t aware, the one year anniversary is the paper year (for gifts). Instead of asking you to mail me cash, I’ll just ask you to post a link to one of your favorite blog posts (yours or another blogger’s) in the comments section below. Since I could print posts off if I were so inclined, a link to a blog post totally works for the paper gift category.* Considering that a hurricane is getting closer and we’re under all kinds of flood watches in SC, I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time for reading this weekend!

Well, I’m off to eat my Little Debbie cake before Sam snatches it. Again, thanks for reading, and here’s to another year of the madness. 🙂

*If you offer web links in lieu of cash in real life, people will hate you.

I hope we can go up for Halloween and we can celebrate our favorite holiday and blogging since that’s how I connected with you and I’m ever so thankful!! ❤ and even though I talk to you every day I love reading your blog because I still learn stuff when you write it out and I enjoy it! 🙂 now we have some fantasy football to win (well you stand a better chance than I do lol)- so I expect when you or Sam win that you will make an entire post dedicated to your victory! 😝😄
Since October is breast cancer awareness I am posting a link to a letter I wrote last year to a friend who lost her battle- and it is true and I want her memory and essence preserved because she was special…

  4. Happy blogiversary! Remember the time I said I wanted to punch your step-mom in the tit? And your sister? And I told my wife those little American fuckers must be half gazelle if they can run around a track like 500 times? That was fun. And the time you said “look down” and it was something about my pens being really small and I nearly pissed myself laughing? What was that one exactly?
This blog is so much fun.
